Rotterdam an Experience in 2026

Rotterdam riding on the Nieuwe Maas

Starting 2026 I decided to organize a photo excursion to Rotterdam. I was here 2 years ago and was very impressed of the city. Today new attractions are open. I could visit the new "Nederlands Fotomuseum" and the "FENIX".  Both impressive buildings with impressive contents. I was accompanied by Axel, Helmut and Torsten. All three enthusiastic photographers like me. Our guide Marcel has a profound knowledge of the history and architecture development. Thanks to him we got many deep insights of Rotterdam.

As this blog is a photo blog I decided to build catgegories by photo collections and short explanations (Links included) at the bottom of the gallery.

To open a Photo Gallery click on a image. This will be open the Gallery with full size images and navigation bottons.

Please have fun with the photo results.

The New Nederlands Fotomuseum

Inside Nederlands Fotomuseum

The Nederlands Fotomuseum is new located in the Santos Coffee Storage near the Rijnhaven (also Station public transport).  The Museum is worth a visit and is an impressive example how the architecture of building and the function of the photo collection and presentation can be combined. I was impressed.

The Old Harbor Districts

Rijnhaven FENIX Building

The harbor district of Rotterdam moved in history more and more to the North Sea. Urbanization is the following concept. Apartment Buildings and office buildings have been erected. But also old storage buildings are updated with modern living and workplace functions. Often together in one building. The Photos will give you a lot of examples.

The Inner City of Rotterdam

Central Station Rotterdam

Rotterdam has a very interesting inner city. Architecture, culture, shopping .... all kind of interest will be covered by a walk trough the inner city. Please let impress you by the photos.

To help you to navigate, here is a link with Maps of Rotterdam.

Discover the Museumsplein

Museumsplein Depot Boijmans

The Museumpark is surrounded with some Museums and other interesting buildings. This time I visited the Depot Boijmans and the Nieuwe Instituut for Architecture. Here you will also find the House Sonneveld a building inspired by the "BAUHAUS" also with interior from the same period. The Museum of Modern Art is even reachable by feed, some hundred meters away.

New York Hotel

New York Hotel at the Entrance Stair Downwards

The New York Hotel is the former Main Office Building of the Holland Amerika Lijn. Today the building is a hotel and restaurant worth a visit. The restore of the building was done in the Art Deco Style. This was the reason I took all photos in black and white. To give you a certain feeling of the former time.

Sky and Architecture

Sky with Cube Houses and Pencil House

Architecture in its environment is always a statement. I tried to set a part of architecture in interaction with the fluent sky. Hope you can enjoy the images.

Rotterdam at Low Light

The Night starts in Rotterdam

The last day of my photo visit I started to climb the Euromast at sun down. Here from one of the "top" views of Rotterdam the sun down and low light images of the city and the harbor are very impressive.

As mentioned Rotterdam is an always changing city. This makes the town a target of photography excursions. From time time to time I will plan new photo dates in Rotterdam.
